Flying Machines Stream

The students chose from a list offour "streams" in which to do a concentration during their week at science camp. One of these streams was the flying machines stream.

The first order of business in this stream was to learn the four forces acting on everything that flies. Once the basics of thrust, drag, gravity, and lift were conquered, the student set about building a number of different projects.

Some of the projects constructed included helicopters, airplanes made from a variety of common, everyday materials, and kites. Each of the creations were then tested, sometimes under some less then cooperative weather conditions.
