Avalanche Workshop

In this workshop, the students were introduced to a number of factors affecting avalanches. The community of Kangiqsualujjuaq was affected by an avalance which stunned the community in the early morning hours of New Year's day, 1999. The students experimented with a number of different surfaces to observe how some surfaces can prevent, or cause, avalanches to occur.

A local elder came into the workshop to talk about the factors affecting avalanches and recounted some of the events from that fateful night. The students also had a chance to walk about the site to see where the avalanche occurred.

Below are some pictures taken while one of the groups was taking the workshop.
